Students at the Hepworth Gallery!

On Thursday 20th November, 6 of our Yr11 art students took part in an ARTiculate workshop at The Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield.  They had to work with students from another school and research works of Art.  This lead to working together in teams, gathering more research and preparing presentations for the afternoon.  They worked with Natalie Walton, who is Head of Learning at the Hepworth and Dr Abigail Harrison-Moore, Head of the School of Fine Art and Cutlural Studies at the University of Leeds.  They were supported by the fantastic Learning team at the Hepworth and some very helpful students from the University of Leeds, acting as their mentors. It was an intensive day, especially when they had to go and interview Simon Wallace, the Director of The Hepworth!  After rehearsing their group presentations, they then presented to the whole party and other senior members of the staff.  In a very nerve racking situation they were amazing, and presented their findings with clarity and confidence.  The feedback from the staff was very positive as they were amazed by the maturity of the students and the way they handled such an difficult fast paced learning workshop.

Author Chris Bradford visits students

Chris Bradford author of the ‘Young Samurai’ and ‘Bodyguard’ series came into school today to talk to Year 7&8 about his books, and to show us some of the many skills he has picked up throughout his career as a ‘method-writer’. The students were treated to a dynamic presentation and had the opportunity to learn secret samurai techniques along with some bodyguard’s tricks of the trade!
